Coffee was highly touted third-round pick (74th overall) by the 49ers in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Alabama where he was the star bell cow for the Crimson Tide. After seeing action in 14 games (two starts) during his rookie season, Coffee abruptly retired at 23-years-old, just two weeks into the 2010 training camp, citing a higher calling. He later made headlines following an arrest for excessive speeding and possession of a concealed firearm. The charges were eventually dropped and he went on to graduate from Alabama last year.
